33 departments in UP launch websites

Lucknow, Sept 1: To promote e-governance and help public get
information on-line, the Uttar Pradesh government today launched
websites for 33 departments.

Besides the new websites, 13 other existing websites, refurbished by
National Informatics Centre (NIC), were also inaugurated by the chief
secretary Prashant Kumar Misra, principal secretary Information
Technology V.N. Garg told reporters.

With a view to bring transparency in inviting tenders, it has been
agreed in principle that six main departments, including PWD,
irrigation, information technology, printing and stationary, medical
and health, would have the facility of inviting tenders through their
respective websites from November one.

Interactive websites for redressal of citizens' problems, providing
internet facilities up to the block level in one year's time and
information on public grievances and their redressal during the
tehesil divas were the other projects in the offing.

On the security of websites which remain under threat of hackers,
Garg said it was the responsibility of NIC.

To update the government staff with the e-governance system, the
state secretariat staff would be given training for 100 hours.

Garg said that a pilot project for district level e-governance with
central government help has been approved for six districts -- Rae
Bareli, Gorakhpur, Sultanpur, Noida, Ghaziabad and Sitapur.
