The FBI is funding the creation of the National Center for Digital
Intrusion Response at the University of Illinois' National Center for
Supercomputing Applications. University & FBI Cybersecurity
researchers will work to understand, detect and investigate
cyber-attacks with a view to equipping FBI agents with the skills and
tools they need to investigate cybercrime.
To stay relevant the FBI needs to be able to defend cyber-space not
only against cybercriminals but also against terrorist organizations
and penetration for foreign intelligence organizations. The injection
of federal funding should serve to encourage other universities to
increase their emphasis on cybersecurity teaching and research.
