RTI drive to raise Bhopal gas tragedy issue

At least a thousand applications to be file to ask what action has been taken by the govt

In an effort to draw attention to the plight of the survivors of the Bhopal gas tragedy, a major RTI campaign will be undertaken and at least a thousand applications will be filed in the next one week seeking information on the action taken by the government.

RTI campaign on Bhopal disaster begins

At least a 1,000 people, mostly Delhi residents, will send RTI applications to the Prime Minister's Office over the next week seeking answers to long-standing questions regarding the Bhopal disaster.

Contempt of court provision can't be repealed: CJI

Thiruvananthapuram, April 26: Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan defended the provisions of contempt of court, saying without them judicial orders will become a bunch of papers and no executive officer will obey court verdicts.

RTI Applicability - Speaker disagrees with CJI’s views

New Delhi, April 21
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today disagreed with Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan’s views that the Right the Information Act was not applicable to his office.
“I am not questioning the Chief Justice. He is a high constitutional functionary. But since you ask me, I feel we should not keep anything back from people,” he told reporters when asked about the CJI’s views.
