Court asked to decide on land allotment to Prakash Jha
Submitted by vinayras on Mon, 12/10/2007 - 12:07.The Supreme Court Thursday set aside a Patna High Court judgement cancelling the allotment of land in Bihar to noted Bollywood director Prakash Jha to set up a film institute and studio.
A bench of Justices Arijit Pasayat and P. Sathasivam also asked the Patna High Court to adjudicate the matter afresh and reach a decision on the legality of the land allotment within four months.
Jha was allotted prime land in Patna and other places very cheap to set up multiplexes, ultra-modern medical colleges and hospitals.

Sethu case: Centre seeks time to file reply

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned to December 11 hearing on a batch of petitions filed by Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy and others challenging the implementation of the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project.
A three-Judge Bench, comprising Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justices R.V. Raveendran and J.M. Panchal, adjourned the hearing since the Centre sought more time to file its response.

SC laments judicial delays, calls it a cause for Bihar public lynchings

The court was dealing with a 60-year-old case when it observed that due to the delays in justice, people were fast losing faith in the judiciary, which is the reason why they are inclined to take law in their own hands!

Sethusamudram project: Rama Setu not to be damaged, says SC
Submitted by vinayras on Fri, 08/31/2007 - 13:59.New Delhi, Aug. 31 (PTI): The Supreme Court today put on hold demolition of the "Rama Setu", a mythical bridge situated south-east off Rameshwaram, connecting the Talaimanar coast of Sri Lanka, for carrying out the ongoing Sethusamudram project.
"Till September 14, the alleged Rama Setu or Adams bridge shall not be damaged in any way," a Bench comprising Justices B N Agrawal and P P Naolekar said in an interim order.
However, it allowed the dredging activity for the project to continue to the extent that it did not in anyway cause any destruction to the Rama Setu.

New Delhi: The Election Commission has refrained from making any
comments on Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin before the Supreme Court,
which has decided to examine whether a person not born in the country
is entitled to hold public office under the Constitution.
The court had sought a specific reply whether a person who had
acquired citizenship by registration can be appointed to public
office.
